It has been a while since I hung my show last year. The show was on display from late October 2011 to the end of January 2012. Lena has kept some of my silk printed silk scarves there as well as a few of my digital collages at the Women’s Institute and Gallery in New Harmony, IN.
2012 has been a busy time. In the spring I work at quilt shows in sales. One of the shows gave me a class to teach which I scheduled for June. I also had another class scheduled for June at the Rend Lake Artisans Center. I created two new classes this year, which was a lot of work. The delight and satisfaction of my students validated all the work I had done.
On June 29th I was doing a demo at the Rend Lake Artisans Center. I was making gelatin mono prints with the idea that these would be future art pieces. A lady watching me purchased three of my prints and I took them home to finish stitching them and mounting them for hanging. The next day, I taught Spontaneous Screen Printing to 7 eager gals and one guy. I am now in the process of scheduling and preparing for another class, Spontaneous Dye Painting, to be held on October 27. During this same time, I was contacted by a magazine who had been looking at my art on the internet. They wanted me to jury for them. Long story short, I am now in the process of writing an article for their magazine and my art is winding its way to their studios for photographing. It has been a busy summer.
My solo exhibit featured some new mixed media work. One of the pieces, Compositions #2, was entered into an exhibit this spring and won the Surface Design Award.

Compositions #2 - Paper, commercial cottons, felt, stitching, acrylic paint, gesso, oil pastels, ink, 14″ x 14″, $250.

The summer is pretty hot again this year. I am participating in the Artisans/Farmer’s market on Saturday mornings in New Harmony. Along with that I am focused on creating new work for my exhibit at the Women’s Institute and Gallery which is scheduled for late October.
I have created one new photo collage this summer and hope to create more in time for the exhibit.

In other news, two pieces of my work, Weathered Places and Fragments of a Life #5b, were accepted in to an exhibit at Maryville University in St. Louis. This exhibit will hang in October as a part of the biannual Innovations in Textiles event. I am very pleased to be in this Missouri Fiber Artists exhibit.

I am currently working some quilt shows and teaching. March and April will be busy. But I did want to let readers know about the Arts In Harmony outdoor event coming up in May. The dates are May 7-8 in New Harmony, IN in the park. That just happens to be Mother’s Day weekend, so….bring your mother! Or your wife, or your girlfriend. There will be unique handcrafted art and jewelry items that make great gifts. Musicians will be performing too, and if the weather is nice, the festival is a joy to be a part of.
